The effectiveness of activated carbon impregnated with zirconium hydroxide (C-Zr) in sulfur dioxide removal was studied in this paper. Zirconium hydroxide was synthesized in-situ and used to produce C-Zr. C-Zr displayed an enhanced SO_2 adsorption capacity as compared to normal activated carbon, while activated carbon impregnated with zirconium hydroxide and copper oxide had an SO2 removal capacity of~53mg/g, which was more than ten times that of normal activated carbon.
