Polylactic acid (PLA) has a critical problem such as low toughness, therefore it deteriorates the reliability on PLA products. Generally, in order to improve the toughness of polymer materials, it is effective to shape the unstable regions by adding soft polymers, such as thennoplastic elastomer (TPE) or rubber. But, it is difficult to predict the effect of TPE addition on toughness, and then the various factors on high toughness of PLA have been discussed. In this study, thennoplastic elastomer (TPE) was added to PLA by melt blending in order to improve toughness, and the effects on the mechanical properties and the toughness of PLA were investigated by the tensile tests and the impact tests.
