Vehicle-to-grid has a potential to be a silver bullet in accelerating the energy transition, and can provide value to multiple stakeholders. This paper investigates the business case of supplying frequency containment reserve (FCR) services to a national transmission system operator (TSO) through vehicle-to-grid (V2G) of EVs within the current market structure in the Netherlands. Through a stepped approach, it has made a financial net present value model of the business case, evaluated the sensitivy of this model to its input parameters, and investigated how the commercial viability for the involved actors changes for different starting years. It concludes that providing V2G services within the Dutch FCR market is not profitable for 2017 costs and revenues, but is expected to be commercially viable in 2021.
