The 46 kA and 13 T Nb_3Al Insert Coil (ALI) will be fabricated and tested with Center Solenoid Model Coil under the framework of ITER-EDA. ALI will be tested at the nominal current of 46 kA and, in addition, at 60 kA as an extra operation. The stability of ALI for short perturbation was investigated on transport currents from 40 to 60 kA and in a magnetic field of 13 T using the quasi-two-dimensional simulation code, POCHI2, in which the coolant temperature in the effective thermal boundary layer is numerically solved. A non-uniform meash system was used to accurately simulate the stability. The simulation results indicate the transition from well-cooled region takes place beyond 46 kA since the recovery temperature becomnes smaller than the current sharing temperature at currents of more than 46 kA. Thus, sufficient degree of stability can be expected for ALI at the design point. In addition, the stability margin is evaluated to be 250 mJ/cm~3 at 60 kA. The extra operation to 60 kA is therefore expected to be prossible.
