Investigation of elliptical crack geometry in a thin plate

摘要

Prediction of crack growth is the heart of damage tolerance of any mechanical design. The present investigation shows the variation in stress concentration factor for various geometries of the crack in a thin plate. The analysis will be carried out by varying the ddimensions of the crack of various geometrical shapes. Aluminum six series sheet metal is considered with holes in which minor axis is varied for the analysis. These geometries are fine meshed and load is applied at one end keeping remaining ends fixed. The stress concentration factor for the varying geometries will be analyzed and compared the results with the numeric analysis for validation.
