A 2D,transient,single-phase model incorporating water transport in the membrane has been developed to study the dynamical behavior of a PEMFC with interdigitated flow fields.Coflow and counterflow designs are discussed in the context of their effects on the performance of the PEMFC.The effects of the operating parameters on either the steady-state or transient performance of the system are outlined by simulations.The overshoots and undershoots in the system response due to a step change in the voltage are monitored simulating the start-up conditions.Also the execution order between the starting of the compressor and the loading of the cell is discussed regarding the transient behavior of the system.On this basis of simulations some failure modes of the PEMFC due to the auxiliary components are investigated.
