摘要

EGASUR, a Brazilian company, got from the government of Peru the temporary concession to develop the Inambari River hydroelectric project with 2,200 MW of installed power. The feasibility study and the environmental impact assessment were done and submitted to the Peruvian government that at the beginning supported the project, but a strong opposition of the local population that was going to be displaced by the 378 km~2 reservoir and of part of the public opinion, that saw the concession to Brazilian companies of five big dams in the Peruvian Amazon as a loss of sovereignty and affront to the environment obliged the government to cancel the concession. Calculations show that the environmental costs are much higher than the economic advantages that Peruvian society could obtain from this project.
