Lubricants commonly admixed with metal powders include zinc stearate, lithium stearate, and ethylene-bis-stearamide (EBS) wax. Various proprietary lubricants are also available to the metal powder or parts producers. Lubrication properties of other metal stearates with metal powders have not been extensively reported. Results are communicated here for steel powder compositions lubricated with blends of manganese, lithium, or zinc stearate and micronized polyethylene wax. Low levels of manganese stearate were able to provide very high apparent densities with good green strengths.
