The McFarland Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) retrofit demonstrates the uniquernaspect of introducing advanced wastewater treatment technology into an existing facility. Thernproject demonstrates that it can be cost effective to transform an existing conventional activatedrnsludge treatment plant into a modern Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) facility. The facility isrnOhio’s first public works WWTP to utilize the MBR treatment process and the largest retrofit ofrna conventional treatment facility in North America.rnIn addition to increasing plant capacity without increasing the footprint of the plant, introducingrnMBR treatment resulted in producing a superior quality effluent compared to conventionalrntechniques. The MBR treatment system requires less overall operation and maintenance cost andrnhas produced at least 30% less residual solids than conventional treatment.
