By conducting laboratory tests and performing FEM on the wetting deformation for rockfill materials of the Tankeng CFRD,this paper presents the analysis on the impact of the wetting deformation on the stress and deformation in the dam body and face slabs,and the impact of rockfill with various cementing matter contents softened and wetted by water on the stressstrain behavior of the dam body and the face slab deformation.In the design,proper consideration of the wetting deformation impact on the rockfill is deemed essential in avoiding the possible separation between the face slabs and the cushion layer and preventing large tensile stress and cracking on the face slabs. The dam has now been filled up to its crest elevation. The dam body settlement and slab deformation are both within the controllable range by the feed-back analysis on the monitoring data during the construction stage,which indicates that adopting the excavated materials with hydrophilic chemical contents is feasible,and can not only reduce the construction cost but also expand the range of usable rock materials for embankment.
