Carbon Carbon composites are promising materials for aircraft brakes due to their excellent thermo-structural, frictional and heat sink characteristics. Performance of these materials in actual application is largely dependent on type of primary and secondary matrices and fibre architecture. DRDL has developed two types of carbon brake disc materials for a typical fighter aircraft and conducted qualification tests.
