The feasibility of producing fine β-silicon carbide powder in thermal plasma under atmospheric pressure using a D.C. extended arc plasma has been investigated. The product produced during the conversion process was critically examined by chemical analysis, X-ray diffraction and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.
