摘要

This study is based on analyses of National Reports on the State of the Natural Environment of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 1994 and 1995 and other official documents. The condition of Kazakhstan's total water resources in the period 1991-95, the impact of pollution stemming from economic development on water resources and the environment, as well as efforts to protect and conserve natural resources together with ecological monitoring by various departments of the Republic are described. The systems employed by various departments and agencies for collecting, processing, and managing information, the drawbacks of the system, the concept of an integrated national data system that has been developed, and the characteristics of databases in the Kazak State Research Institute for Scientific and Technical Information are also described. Finally, information on relevant legislation and supporting documentation on water resources are presented.
