Superconductivity in molecular materials has come a long way in twenty years: well over 100 molecular superconductors are now known. Superconductivity has been observed in 1D, 2D, and 3D molecular materials and the physical properties of these systems have been probed in great detail. Superconductivity in molecular systems is no longer a novelty but still a fascination with much potential. Future growth in this field will continue to rely heavily on its multidisciplinary nature, with important contributions from chemists, physicists, and materials scientists alike. 'Crystal engineering' will continue to play a major role as materials chemists learn to control the structure and physical properties of molecular solids through chemical methods. Many promising avenues for future research in this field have been initiated by fascinating discoveries made within the past year. It is impossible to predict the future for these novel molecular materials, but they continue to hold great promise as electronic components continue to shrink toward 'molecular electronics'.
