We have solved the three dimensional time-dependent Schroedinger equation for the Li~- ion interacting with an ultrashort, intense, linearly polarized laser pulse, using a two-active electron approximation that accounts for polarization effects of the Li~+ core. The technique used for obtaining angular distributions for double ionization by ultrashort laser pulses applies for both weak and intense pulses, and could be extended to treat any two-electron system. In the weak field regime, we recover essential features of angular distributions for the one-photon double ionization, namely selection rules and strong correlation effects between electrons. In the multiphoton regime, we find that electrons may possibly be ejected in all directions, but with peaks along directions parallel and perpendicular to the polarization axis of the field. For intensities used in the multiphoton regime, configurations where electrons are ejected in opposite directions are more likely that those for ejection in the same direction.
