摘要

The evaluation and testing of tissue engineering scaffolds is essential to the success of tissue regeneration and repair. Failure to do so can result in negative results which may yield little understanding about where changes or improvements are needed. However, scaffold evaluation should be performed in a systematic fashion. First the physical and mechanical properties, including the architecture should be analyzed. Next it is important to characterize the degradation characteristics of biodegradable scaffolds. This should be followed by in vitro cell response studies. Finally, based on the results of these tests, in vivo testing may be warranted.
