Modified TPO and Polypropylene for Enhanced Paintability and Dyeability

Reactive extrusion compounding was conducted, to alter the chemical nature of polypropylene and thermoplastic olefins (TPO). The modifications have created a new set of properties for potential use in plastic applications. In one case, TPO was modified using reactive oligomer for developing adhesion with paint. In another case, polypropylene was grafted with pentabromobenzyl acrylate (PBBA) to produce fibers with excellent dyeability. This paper will discuss results of various experiments in these applications.
