摘要

Building project submittal requirements of local and state jurisdictions can be a challenge, and they can significantly impact project schedules and budgets. This paper discusses submittal processes, the building code alternative methods, and recommendations for structural engineers and architects to overcome these challenges. The 7997 Uniform Building Code and the 2000 International Building Code provisions provide for alternatives to the code which allows design approaches that are not specifically addressed in the building code. Specific procedures must be followed to enable engineers and architects to obtain building officials approval of design documents so that building permits can be issued. The Internationa] Code Council published the ICC Performance Code for Buildings and Facilities in December 2001, which provides for more flexibility in meeting project objectives. Discussions will include engineers and architect's responsibilities, submittal requirements and application of this code when used in conjunction with current prescriptive codes and standards.
