Denmark is located at an important position between Germany and the rest of Scandinavia. In the last five years, two important fixed links have been completed, and a third is presently being studied. This paper will present the completed connections (Great Belt & oresund), and the missing connection across Fehmarn Belt. The different possible solutions will be presented with focus on technical, environmental and safety aspects. Furthermore, with reference to the two major connections already built, possible ways of financing the third fixed link will also be discussed. The paper will focus on the tunnel parts of the 3 projects and discuss the limitations of large-length road and rail tunnels. Both immersed and bored tunnels will be discussed.
