The Malampaya field development comprises subsea wells inrn820 meters water-depth producing via a subsea manifold andrntwo 16 inch diameter inconel clad flowlines to a shallow waterrnplatform 30 km distant. Condensate is removed on thernplatform and the dry gas is then transported via a 504 km longrn24 inch export pipeline to an onshore gas plant at Tabangaorn(Batangas, Luzon Island) for extraction of H2S. Therncondensate is stored in the platform CGS Caisson prior tornexport via a short 3 km long 24 inch diameter pipeline andrnCALM buoy (Fig 11).rnThe Malampaya Deep Water Gas to Power Project in thernPhilippines has delivered first gas as advertised on October 1strn2001. The gas production is from five high rate deep waterrnsubsea gas wells. This paper summarises the delivery of thernwells, in particular, the specific challenges that had to bernsurmounted to deliver high quality wells whilst remainingrnwithin the tight Malampaya project schedule.rnThese challenges related to the deployment of leading edgernwell technology systems in an environmentally pristine andrnremote area. This within a country with extremely limitedrnpetroleum infrastructure and very long supply lines. Therndefinition and management of good performance within thisrncontext and the management of the many interfaces with otherrndisciplines working concurrently required unique ways ofrnworking to be established.rnWithin the technical arena, many novel solutions werernadopted with respect to rig modifications, drilling with losses,rnmanagement of hydrates, horizontal Xmas trees, monoborernwell completions, coiled tubing perforating from a semi-subrnwell test clean-up and extensive/detailed planning.rnOrganisationally, a working atmosphere was developed basedrnon open, detailed and relentless inter-team challenge. This ledrnto drilling and completing, genuinely to the “limit” of whatrnwas achievable for Malampaya.
