摘要

Airborne lead at the Met-Mex Pe?oles smelter and refinery, as well as in the surroundingrnneighborhoods, declined significantly between 1999 and 2001, and then remained steady until 2005. Inrn2006 new measurements of emissions were conducted and the results generated a strategic plan (2007-rn2011) designed to reduce emissions and improve upon results achieved in previous years. The plan focusedrnon reducing emissions generated in materials handling, process buildings and process equipment leakagesrnby controlling key environmental variables. The implementation of the plan helped to reduce average bloodrnlead levels in the population near Met-Mex, as well as among our plant workers. Met-Mex Pe?oles wasrnthus able to meet its strategic need for a sustainable business by demonstrating leadership in environmentalrnprotection, social responsibility towards the community and by providing the best option for employmentrnin the communities where we operate.
