This project was brought up because of the need of the customer to improve the total efficiency of the air systems related to the drying process of the paper machine. As in any project of this kind we started with a complete survey of the existing equipments to establish the present situations from which we would have to develop the new systems. In the first survey, we stated that the existing air systems had very poor heat recovery which meant there was a great potential for improvement. Of the three blowing groups into the dryer section only one of them had heat recovery while the other two were using steam to preheat the air with the consequent energy costs. Three other air to water heating units were present in the installation but out of use.
