Quality and productivity are key attributes that directly measure the effectiveness and cost of continuous and batch manufacturing processes. Integrated Process Control, the integration of all equipment and process parameters, is an evolving technology that effectively impacts these factors with the results being product improvement and an attractive return on investment. Older technologies involve discrete control of temperatures, pressures, speeds, material feed, etc. and supervisory scanning or dimensional measurement and control of the sheet or profile. This paper will explain what is meant by totally integrated process control, how it is applied to the manufacturing process, and outline methods to calculate the resultant savings.
