The powder metal industry has seen a continued demand for high strength and high performance P/M part production to prevent global environmental issue. To satisfy the demands of these trends, higher density processes and alloyed. material have been suggested and widely used in the P/M industry. Machinability and high-strength are incompatible properties and it is difficult to satisfy both in many cases. In other words, machinability is a key to achieve higher strength P/M parts to compete with wrought steel material and further expand the applications. As one of the answers to overcome this problem, green machining has recently been proposed. The green machining becomes reality by high green strength or less green cracking materials, which containing resin binder for suitable P/M part production process. In this paper, two resin binders are introduced depend on part production process. One of the binders is unique thermosetting hybrid resin binder[1], which requires relatively lower temperature and shorter consolidation. It is also possible to eliminate the curing process with the combination of a warm compaction process. Since it requires lower temperatures and shorter curing times, even in combination with warm compaction, has significant advantages for improving productivity and cost competitiveness as compared to conventional high green strength materials for green machining. Other binder is unique ambient temperature reactive resin binder~[2], which eliminates the curing process completely after compaction with the use of a conventional compacting process. In this paper, green properties and green machining performances of each high green strength mixtures are revealed for various P/M part production processes.
