Several new methods have been applied to the diagnostics of plasma parameters in discharge-type light sources by using electromagnetic waves in the infrared to far-infrared ranges. A mm-wave transmission method was successfully used for the estimation of electron density n_e in a CCFL with its two-dimensional array. A THz time-domain spectroscopic method was used for the measurement of n_e and the elastic (momentum transfer) collision frequency v_(me) of electrons in an rf-driven Hg-Ar filled lamp, while a heterodyne interferometric method with a CO_2-laser operating at 10.6 μm was used for the spatially resolved measurement of n_r in a mercury-free Xe-lamp.
