In this paper, a nonlinear robust control is developed for activernmass damper systems subject to external perturbation.rnThis nonlinear controller is composed by the sum of a linearrnterm plus a chattering component. The linear term is designedrnusing linear matrix inequality (LMI) theory. Then,rnthe chattering term is added to improve controller performance.rnLyapunov theory is invoked to validate our controlrndesign. According with experiments, where a flexible twornlevels building with active mass damper and external perturbationrnis employed, they show that this chattering termrnimproves controller performance. However, when a faultrnoccurs, this chattering term is complaining.
