Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) becomes anrnindispensable sensor as a remote sensing device forrnland and sea surface image processing . Butrnmultiplicative noise (speckle) causes great impedimentrnfor processing these types of images. So, spacklernfiltering becomes inevitable preprocessing step in SARrnimage interpretation. Speckle Filter performancernstrongly depends on speckle model and heterogeneityrnmeasurement. Classical single - stage speckle filters failsrnto retain image structures on iteration, but iterati on isrnnecessary for effective smoothing of speckle. In thisrnpaper we propose a heterogeneity measuringrntechnique that enables to apply traditional filtersrniteratively. We also propose a new robust anisotropicrndiffusion (AD) based speckle filter (ROSRAD), thatrnperform better than the existing speckle reducing ADrnfilters like SRAD and DPAD. Performance ofrnROSRAD is tested on simulated and real SAR imagesrnand compared with other AD filters.
