Mushroom growers of Vidarbha region in Central India are very much in dilemma to continue with mushroom cultivation or go for other crop patterns as their mushroom crops are damaged to a considerable extent by the attack of pathogens. Literature survey reveals that, there are certain plants in Melghat region of Central India have enormous potential, not only to alter the growth of pathogens but also enhance phytotic growth of crops. The medicinal extracts of the plants Butea monosperma, Cassia fistula, Caesalpinia bonduc, Cassine glauca are reported to have antibacterial and antifungal activities. The present study has been undertaken to isolate and characterize the potential ingredients from various parts of plants by using soxhlet extractor and study their impact along with whole plant extracts that promise to protect mushroom crops from the attack of pathogens like C. verticillatum, G. deliquescene, P. agarici etc. The medicinal plant extracts and isolated ingredients are found to be detrimental to the growth of the pathogens responsible for the damage of mushroom species. It has also been observed that whole plant extracts are more effective than the isolated ingredients. So also the administration of these promoted growth as well as yield of the treated crops. However, it is advisable that the further detailed study in this regard be undertaken by the people working in this field.
