Controlling the total cholesterol level is important for preventing lifestyle-related diseases. Approximately 11% of the body's cholesterol was present in the skin and equally to the percentage found in the blood. This study focused on a simple and non-invasive method of measuring cholesterol by using a Near Infrared (NIR) light which wavelengths are longer than visible light that is in the range of 700nm???1400nm on the electromagnetic spectrum. Methods for non-invasive blood analysis were disclosed in which blood was illuminated at a number of discrete wavelengths selected from the NIR spectrum, based on the acquisition of information from the analysis of skin components by using a simple test. Intensity of reflected or transmitted light at such wavelengths were measured, and a comparison between non-invasive cholesterol meter and invasive cholesterol meter was performed.
