he trigger based on the Discrete Cosine Transform allows arecognition of ADC traces with a very short rise time and afast exponential attenuation related to a narrow, flat muoncomponent of very inclined extensive air showers generat-edby hadrons and starting their development early in theatmosphere. Pattern (shape) recognition approach is pro-posedfor new ground EAS arrays with water Cherenkovdetectors as an additional support to the standard thresholddetection, where coincidence techniques to reduce the sen-sitivityto fluctuations cannot be longer used if the surfacedetectors have only one PMT.
