A number of the comments made by the panelists have raised important issues with regard to the application of the MEP. Two types of comments developed from the assessment: technical comments to suggest enhancements to the MEP, and comments that offer insights to the potential complications of the use of an MEP in a regulatory compliance application. In particular, it is expected that in the interest of opening the door to additional models, the new allowance for use of the MEP creates an additional burden on the authorities having jurisdiction. They will need to understand the many options available to them for evaluation of hazards and may need to become more knowledgeable of the mechanics and theory of LNG models. This may create challenges in interpretation of modeling results for hazard evaluation since models that are found acceptable to the MEP may significantly vary in their estimation of hazard distances.
