摘要

“Women Weave the Web” was the 2014 digital actionrncampaign sponsored by World Pulse, “… the leadingrnnetwork using the power of digital media to connect womenrnworldwide and bring them a global voice” (World Pulsern2014). In three ten-week phases, women were encouragedrnto submit entries using on-line journals about theirrnexperiences with digital access, digital literacy and digitalrnempowerment. During the seven-month campaign, 590rnjournal entries from women in 71 countries were analyzedrnto make recommendations not only concerning digitalrninclusion, but also library development, internetrnaffordability, internet rights, and technology relatedrnviolence against women. Because women were respondingrnto campaign prompts, they contributed to solutions withinrnthe on-line community, as well as informed the larger goalsrnof the organization and its advocacy partners.rnA knowledge management framework was used alongside arnsocial constructionist approach to analyze the entries. Thisrnapproach emphasizes the construction of knowledge fromrnthe collective commentary by the community. Datarnvisualization was used to address issues related to this largernqualitative data set in a timely manner consistent withrnorganizational goals.rnRecommendations produced through the data analysisrnhighlight real solutions to global problems, whilernmaintaining the integrity of individual experiences.rnIncluded in campaign advocacy packages, graphicrnsummaries of recommendations, representative quotes andrnlinks to original entries present the information in layersrnthat increase the utility of this powerful and uniquernknowledge collection.rnAs qualitative material becomes more accessible online, rnorganizations need trustworthy, timely methods that will allow them to utilize these rich data sets for knowledgerncreation that can inform organizational goals. Illustrationsrnof the type of analysis used in the “Women Weave thernWeb” campaign can be important resources for building anrnanalysis framework that meets the demands of bigrnqualitative data.
