Currently, Kent State University Library is preparing tornredesign its online exhibits and digital collections on to arndifferent content management system and interface. Thernplan will entail migrating existing digital collections tornanother platform, and in so, provide a more inclusivernsearch mechanism to enhance access. In order to preparernfor this migration, we are currently mapping the existingrndigital collections and associated metadata for thernproposed solution, from a locally created and hostedrnframework into a more sustainable platform with arnconsolidated, searchable base for all digital objects andrncorresponding metadata. This work includes moving awayrnfrom a highly tailored, in-house solution, and transposingrnthe data into a RDF file. Principles of Linked Data willrnalso be applied to the accompanying metadata files duringrnthe conversion process. The largest resulting change fromrnthis shift of a homegrown solution into an extensible,rnopen access platform is for the capability of searchingrnacross multiple collections. Currently, cross collectionrnsearching is not available in the current interface, andrnthere are oftent imes many related materials betweenrnseveral existing digital collections that would benefit as arnresult of this change. The poster will address the shift inrnthe ideology into this new framework and highlight thernbenefits in this switch.
