High-chromia refractory is mainly used as lining material for gasifier.One problem for this kind of material is the low penetration resistance.Magnesium aluminate spinel was added into high-chromia refractory in this work.Cup test was employed to evaluate the corrosion resistance of magnesium aluminate spinel containing specimens in comparison with high-chromia refractory.The results showed that the appropriate spinel addition could improve the penetration resistance of high-chromia refractory due to the formation of composite spinel during sintering, which would accommodate iron cations and make the slag much viscous.
