By using microcrystalline magnesite from Sichuan-Tibet region of China as raw materials, a kind of caustic calcined magnesia (CCM) is made by heating it at 850 ℃ for 5hours.The CCM was fine grinded and pressed to be cylindrical specimens.They were sintered at 1800 ℃ for 8hours.High purity, high density sintered magnesia was obtained MgO content of the sintered magnesia is 98.69%, the grain density got an average value being 3.48g/cm3, Periclase Crystal Size (PCS) is about 80-150 μm.By heating the microcrystalline magnesite ore at high temperature,high purity sintered magnesia has MgO content of 98.55%, grain density of 3.25g/cm3, Periclase Crystal Size (PCS) about 10-30 μm is obtained Both of the sintered magnesia can be used in high purity refractory materials according to different requirements.
