Effects of hercynite addition on properties of magnesia-hercynite castable were investigated in attempt to develop an excellent magnesia castable used for the sintering zone of rotary cement kiln.High-purity magnesia, fused hercynite and silica fume were employed as raw materials to prepare magnesia-hercynite castable and the influence of various content of hercynite (5%, 8%, 10% 8%) on properties of the castable was studied.Higher flexural and compressive strength, higher bulk density and lower porosity in the castable were obtained with hercynite content of l 0wt%.Coatability of the castable increased with hercynite content increasing and optimal performance demonstrated at 10wt% of hercynite.
