Ethylene furnace liquid feedstocks typically consist of naphtha range petroleum fractions.rnThese petroleum fractions are complex solutions of n-paraffins, iso-paraffins, olefins,rnnaphthenes and aromatics. Analyses that provide detailed data regarding types andrnconcentrations of each compound present can be used to optimize furnace operations.rnTypically, liquid feedstock analyses are performed off-line in the laboratory. In order tornprovide more frequent analyses thus maximizing the opportunity for furnace optimizationrnthe laboratory analysis was placed on-line.rnReported here is the complete on-line analysis of naphtha range petroleum fractions byrntemperature programmed gas chromatography. Typical analysis reports would identifyrnconcentrations of 150 to 200+ compounds. A unique liquid injection valve was utilized tornovercome challenges presented by a sample containing compounds ranging from propanernto n-hexadecane.
