This paper discusses the destruction of TNT (2, 4, 6-trinitrotoluene) and RDX (1, 3, 5-trinitro-1, 3, 5-triazacyclohexane) in pink water by heterogeneous photocatalytic (HP) (O_3, UV, TiO_2), UV-light catalyzed ozone (UV, O_3 or O_2) and N_2-gas sparged treatment (N_2, UV, TiO_2) processes. The variables of the various treatment processes that were studied include the presence or absence of catalyst, photon source, reactor gas atmosphere and reaction time. Under similar reactor conditions, greater TNT and RDX breakdowns were achieved by UV-light catalyzed ozone treatment compared to the HP treatment (O_3 TiO_2, UV).
