The Neutral Model Format for building simulation was proposedrnin 1989 as a means for documentation and exchange of models. Itrnhas attracted much interest and an acceptance as a potentialrnstandard, maintained by ASHRAE's TC 4.7 technical committee.rnSo far, the format has only been directed towards componentrn(leaf) models, but many suggestions have been made to extend itrnto also cater for systems of component models. A brief review ofrnNNE is given. This paper makes detailed proposals for NNErnextensions covering hierarchical modeling, inheritance,rnequation-based function definitions, link types with associatedrnequations, and a general method to handle non-standardrnextensions. A future development of NNE towardsrnSTEP/EXPRESS is also discussed.
