The impact of central forced-air heating and coolingrnsystem modifications on the levels of selectedrnpollutants in single-family houses was evaluated byrnsimulating pollutant concentrations due to a variety ofrnsources in eight houses with typical HVAC systems.rnSimulations were performed with a multizone airflowrnand pollutant transport model and were repeated withrnthe systems modified to include an electrostaticrnparticulate filter, a heat recovery ventilator, and anrnoutdoor air intake damper. The system modificationsrnreduced the pollutant levels in the houses for somerncases; however, the results also demonstrated potentialrnlimitations in both the simulation method and thernperformance of the devices.
