Rosions and sediment control is one of the greatest issues for the road construction industry from both an environmental and asset management perspective. Effective erosion and sediment control can best be acieved by the integration of control measures into all phases of road planning, design and construction. Retrofitting erosion and sediment control measures post construction in many istances has proven to be a difficult and costly exercise. This paper looks at two road construction projects in North Queensland where adequate eroshion and sediment controls were not incorporated in the design process and examines the difficulty of retrofitting control measures after the fact.
