This paper presents suppression of fractional-order Liu system via fractional-order sliding mode control. We stabilize the chaotic system to the origin via one control input in the presence of external disturbances and system uncertainties. The sliding mode controller is established based on a novel fractional-order integral type sliding surface. Based on Lyapunov stability theorem a sufficient conditions is obtained to guarantee the occurrence of sliding mode. It is shown that the controller has the merit of capability for both commensurate and incommensurate systems. Numerical simulations have been carried out to verify the significance of the controller.
