Normally, when we design the tensile value for optic fiber cable, we just only consider the main bearing components, such as central strength member, aramid yarn and stranding steel wire, but ignore the contribution of the other components. However, for steel tape armored optic fiber cable, the contribution of steel tape should not be ignored. If we can find the way how to calculate the tensile value of steel tape, it will be instructive and meaningful for us to design the cable and to reduce the cost. This paper, to find out the answer, get stress-stain curve of plastic coated steel tape through the tensile test, and find out the elastic modulus in elastic range of it, then select different kinds of steel tape armored cable and non-armored cable to do the tensile test , compare the result of steel tape armored cable with the result of non-armored one, analyze the contribution of the steel tape in the whole tensile strength, and find out the impact factor K_(steel tape). Provide a reference for the cable designers to design the steel tape armored cable.
