摘要

Spillway piers supporting radial gates are highly stressed members of the water control system in dams. An Indian Standard on "Structural Design of Spillway Pier and Crest" lays down the criteria for their structural design. This paper presents a detailed analysis of the spillway piers using the finite element method, in order to evaluate the codal provisions. Significance of the dynamic analysis for earthquake effects has been brought out in order to ensure a safe and economic design of the spillway piers.
