The paper discusses the fundamental ideas, methods and ways adopted in solving problems on engineering mechanics as well as the relationship between problem solving and thinking ability improving on the subject. In the first step of exercise analysis, the known, the question, the studying object and the studying process should be analyzed. In the next step of problem solving, it is a good habit if you try drawing designs and establishing coordinate and keep in your mind the principle of comparison and analogy. Finally, in order to get better results, reflections on the process of problem solving is essential.
