A Dynamic Reanalysis Technique for Modifications of Structural Components

A procedure for the reanalysis of the dynamic response of linear systems subjectedrnto deterministic loads is presented. The procedure allows to evaluate the dynamicrnresponse of the modified structural system avoiding both the solution of the newrneigenproblem and the evaluation of the associated transition matrix related to thernnew structure. The method is able to solve also the case in which topologicalrnmodifications are introduced. In this case, known the eigenproperties of the originalrnstructure, the equation of motion of the modified system are written in a reducedrnspace by means of the Ritz vectors. Lastly an unconditionally stable step-by-steprnprocedure based on the dynamic modification method is applied to find the dynamicrnresponse of the new structure. The proposed method is computationally veryrneffective since it does not require any eigensolution and leads to very accuraternresults as shown in the numerical applications.
