A model of a three-dimensional rigid body is developed to verify if there are conditionsrnfor which a three-dimensional model is needed instead of a two-dimensionalrnone in order to have a more accurate description of motion. The body modelled hasrna rectangular base and it is allowed only to rock around a side or a vertex. Moreoverrnits center of mass can be eccentric with respect to its geometrical center. The generalrnbalance principle is used to obtain the equations of motion. Results show that withrna one-sine pulse base excitation, there are directions of the excitation where only arnthree-dimensional model gives the correct description of the body behavior.
