摘要

This study reveals the short-range accuracy of the modulated laser encoder. The two major components of the error are the interpolation-error and the short-range error of the scale. The wavelength modulation encoder provides a low interpolation error due to the decoder technology. We obtained within 1nm-pp interpolation error across the wide gap and large angle tolerances. For the second evaluation, we introduced a short-range-error measurement system using two encoder heads. This machine provides high repeatability due to the encoder output stability. The evaluation result of a quartz phase grating scale was within 1nm-pp short-range-error in whole scale length, by using this measurement system.
