摘要

Ti alloys are attractive materials due to their unique high strength-weight ratio that is maintained at elevated temperatures and to their exceptional corrosion resistance. Therefore, they have proven to be important engineering alloys for advanced applications in aero-engine, airframe manufacture and biomedical industries [1,2]. However, the Ti alloys are classified as difficult-to-machine materials because of the high chemical reactivity and the low thermal conductivity. These characteristics of the Ti alloys lead to excessive chipping, premature tool failure and poor surface finish on the workpieces.
