The reactions of p-substituted-N,N-dimethylaniline derivative cation radicals in acetonitrile were observed using an electron transfer stopped-flow method. In the reactions of the cyano and formyl derivative cation radicals, it was found that the decay reactions of the cation radicals proceeded via the acid-base interaction via the proton elimination. This result was same as the cases of methyl and methoxy derivative cation radicals. In contrast, in the case of carboxyl derivative cation radical, it was found that the benzidine dimer was formed via the elimination of the substituent, which was similar to the reaction of the bromo derivative cation radical.
